RE: Ever installed propane????

Ya i guess that might be the best way to go, just trying to save some money you know. Who does this sort of thing anyways, just RV dealers? Look in the Yellow Pages for an LPG supplier or service facility in your area or an outfit that does gas fitting. Another alternative is to ask your dealer, but, try and do this outside the dealer as the cost will be far less that way. I understand saving the $'s but LPG makes a real mess in the case of an explosion. I would also expect that your insurance company would not look too kindly on a loss that involved an LPG incident in the event they establish that the work was not done by a qualified gas fitter. Vic

RE: Monoco Diplmat vs Tiffin Phaeton

Since we're voting. My vote would be with the Tiffin by default. My 2007 Monaco product, a Holiday Rambler Neptune how has a stress crack in the front endcap above the drivers side window. All I have done since buying it is drive back and forth to and from the dealership in Oregon, to the Florida service center, and now in June I'm heading to the Indiana service center. Then maybe over to Iowa to check out the Winnabago tours. Before you buy, climb up on the roof and see if the end caps are taped (that right, duct taped) to the roof. My roof shows the real lack of quality work that Monaco does. That "duct tape" you refer to, is actually etrnabond tape on all seams and opening on the roof, to insure a non-leaking roof. Other brand owners pay good money for after market etrnabond tape and hours of their time to do what Holiday Rambler does as OEM. You should know what you're talking about before spreading false rumors. Hear, hear. Vic

RE: Integrated alarm clock, smoke detector and CO alarm

I am not so sure the concept is appropriate. CO is heavier than air. If you look at the CO detector in most RV's it will be close to the floor, where the CO is likely to be if it exists. Having said that, reading the clock may be a bit of a problem as it will be close to the floor to accommodate the efficient and effective operation of the CO detector. Also, the smoke detector should be ceiling mounted as smoke is usually warmer than the ambient air temperature and therefore rises to the ceiling. Vic

RE: Propane line to remotely grill -question

Have you ever seen the results of a propane (LPG) explosion? I would suggest that you go to a propane supplier and have a licensed gas fitter do the modifications. Vic

RE: I need expert advice mounting this item (see picture)

Don't. even think about it. Put the extra stuff in the trunk of the toad, or, leave the stuff at home. Leaks are about as much fun as a hernia!

RE: Where does your baby sleep in your RV?

Our youngest grandD slept in the shower until she was able to climb out of it. She then went to one of those folding contraptions that are very capable of getting my goat. Vic

RE: No passenger seatbelts - installation advice..

Hi all, My recently purchased 1991 Winnebago Chiefton "A" only has seatbelts for the driver and front passenger. I have 3 young children (2/5/7) and want to fit additional seatbelts. Any advice on purchasing/installing seatbelts? Any locals to Seattle know anywhere that would do such an installation? Thanks all That does seem strange to me. Winnebago is one of the few manufacturers that install more than the 2 cockpit belts. I would suggest that you have a real good look and look on the Winnebago site. They have a super site for information. A friend of mine was looking for the part numbers for the door latch assembly for an '87 Chieftain and found all the information he needed on their site. He didn't but from them as the price was ridiculous but found an after market supplier that had the goods. By the way his coach has belts on the bucket seats on either side of the door and four belts on the dinette. I helped him remove the belts for the bucket seats, took out the seats also. The belts were bolted through the frame. Vic

RE: Another (different) traveling with LP on question

Unless you are going to be on the road for a real long time, simply plug in a day or two before leaving, pack up the fridge and hit the road with the fridge off. It is good for a real long time if unopened. The reason you don't have a 12 VDC capability is the fridge does not operate very effectively on 12VDC and this option has gone the way of the Dodo. The 12VDC would usually maintain a cold fridge but going from off takes forever. Vic

RE: Want to install 19 gallon electric water heater

put a small electric befor the gas one and you could have both , Yes, but the propane one downstream would be full of cold water, not hot water, and you would need to run all the water out of it before getting any hot water to the fixtures. You could put them in parallel with isolation valves, but who would want to go to all that trouble to switch back and forth? Why not just use the 120v element in your 6 or 10 gallon existing tank? The one downstream is the LP heater. As with the elec heater it has a thermostat and therefore if turned on, it will have hot water in it.
